It's A No!

Stockport has said a massive NO! to the proposals to introduce a Congestion Charge across Greater Manchester. All ten Local Authority areas across Greater Manchester voted no, with Stockport securing 59% turnout. Over 103,000 Stockport voters turned out to oppose the C-Charge.

Cllr Les Jones, Stockport Conservative Group Leader, said:

"The people of Stockport and Greater Manchester have spoken loud and clear and it's a victory for common sense. This clean sweep is conclusive- no-one wants this half-baked congestin charge scheme."

"I would now strongly urge Council bosses and the Government to drop this flawed scheme with immediate effect. This is amassive public indictment of a Greater Manchester Congestion Charge and the authorities are now honour bound to scrap it."

"This was always a buy now, pay later scheme which would have lumbered residents of Greater Manchester with huge debts for decades to come."
